What Were We Thinking?

Here's our fall schedule, some of it set in stone 18 months ago:
  • Aug 3 - 20 Wyoming and New Mexico
  • Aug 28 - Sept 11 France
  • Sept 24 - Oct 4 Oregon
  • Oct - New England

July 24 - Philip comes in from several grueling hot hours of mowing and says "summer's over; let's move." Now our schedule looks like this:
  • July 26 - meet with realtor 
  • Aug 1 - meet with banker
  • Aug 3 - 20 Wyoming and New Mexico
  • Aug 16 - Philip looks at properties
  • Aug 23 - Philip and Becky look at properties; make an offer on a townhouse PB saw 8/16. Offer accepted
  • Aug 28 - Sept 11 France
  • Sept 24 - Oct 4 Oregon
  • Oct 15 - close and begin moving
  • Nov - New England
  • Dec to ??? - sell house
What were we thinking????

We're now in the throes of finances, building inspection, and packing. The bank seems to think we're some sort of ancient Bonnie and Clyde's. I don't know whether to be amused annoyed. On the other hand Philip routinely assures me his blood pressure is sky rocketing. 

What a fun time!

We spent our 1st night in town 10 days ago. The floors had some wear and tear; we decided to have them sanded and refinished before moving. Internet surfing; I found some pics of the original build; quite different. These pics are circa 2013. cabinets are now painted off white; I'd like them gone. eat-in kitchen replaced with bright white cabinets and a kitchen desk Floor is now white/grey tile there is a tub where the shower was huge walk in shower replaced the tub. granite counter top with individual mirrors and fantastic lighting; all new tile; floor and wall. mantle and surround replaced; floors were stained "gunstock"; I took them back to this natural color. Me and Pilates; Pilates and I

I’m exploring pilates. I‘ve heard about it for years but dismissed it as a faddish 90's workout. To be effective, Pilates requires concentration and ability to multi-task. Breathing correctly is important; inhale deeply through the nose, exhale gently thru soft lips. Huh?   For me, breathing is multi-tasking. Not only do I forget to breath, but I hold my breath until I almost pass out.   My initial introduction was pre Portugal, pre Corona. I checked into the YWCA, found the Pilates studio. The instructor was a model-thin woman, a single line of sweat dripping down her radiant cheek. Great. I hated the place already. I could not quite believe I was handing over $ to exercise. I am a reasonable person. I live near a walking trail. I own a pair of sneakers. Why not just put them on and go walking?   My instructor took me to the “Reformer”, a long, low, bedlike apparatus with a flat, padded carriage that slid back and forth the length of the bed. The Hill Is Again a Happy Place

I spent a couple of hours at The Hill this afternoon. The new owners are making it a happy place again. We spent about an hour walking the grounds, showing them the property lines and helping identify trees, shrubs, and garden plants. Coming from a gardening Zone 8 to 6b is a big adjustment. I enjoyed their energy and enthusiasm. Neither know anything about vegetable gardens and were plunging in with fervor. I had to caution them … little early for tomatoes … we still have Redbud, Dogwood and Blackberry winters to get thru. They're amused (more like agog) to learn my weed control - burn, baby, burn. J told me my nickname around the place is Blowtorch Becky. They added wonderful yard art to the pieces I left behind. I encouraged them to make the gardens their own; don't worry about what I planted and did. Certainly, I'm doing the same in my new home; Nadina immediately was yanked out.
